Shock Therapy’s Turbo S Front Limit Strap Kit Installation

Shock Therapy’s Turbo S Front Limit Strap Kit Installation

Finally, there’s a cure for the front end clunk sound from the Polaris RZR Turbo S...Shock Therapy Limit Strap Kits! As most people know, the shocks can make a loud clunk that feels like a hammer against the chassis at full extension. If you run aftermarket, heavier wheels, and tires, this clunk gets much worse. Although the shocks have extension stops internally, the tuning is by the factory wheel and tire weight. They can't manage changes in the system. Due to this setup, a front end clunk has become the new normal in UTV's. Well, not anymore. Shock Therapy’s new limit strap kit stops the front end clunk instantly.

Steve Feick, a Shock Therapy Suspension Technician, explains how to install a front limit strap kit on a Polaris RZR Turbo S.

Complete the installation at home using the following steps.

Loosen the Hardware

It's easy to install the strap kit by removing the front shocks completely from the vehicle. Start by first loosening the lower hardware and then the upper hardware. Remember to save the stock hardware as some of the stock nuts will be reused in the limit strap kit.

Unplug Electronics

Unplug the dynamix electronic control from the top of the shock.

Jack Up the Car

With the loose hardware and the electronic control disconnected from the shock, Jack the car up to where the tires are just about one inch off the ground.

Remove Shock

Use toes under the tire to raise it marginally from the lower shock mount while removing the hardware. Ensure a firm grasp of the shock when removing the upper bolt. Remove the shock from the car.

Clock Clamp

Grab the billet aluminum limit strap clamp. Make sure to install this on the shock with the writing and logo right-side up. Leave the Allen hardware slightly loose, allowing the clamp to be clocked to the appropriate location. The mounting hole for the adjustable clevis in the clamp should precisely be aligned with the upper mounting shock hole. Ensure that the hardware torques to the correct spec.

Attach clevis to strap

Install the limit strap on the shock. First, make sure to use the end of the strap with the larger hole to install on the adjustable clevis. Install the clevis bolt through the strap and tighten the hand-tight to move inside the clevis so that it remains perfectly straight later in the installation.

Install Clevis to billet Clamp

Install the clevis on the billet aluminum clamp using star washers on both sides of the billet aluminum clamp.

Measure Strap

A good starting point for the strap location is the lower holes to be one-inch offset. This will allow for some stretch when the strap is installed on the car.

Tighten Clevis

Tighten the adjustable clevis. Ensure that the clevis is tightened in the straight position so that the strap is in line with the coil springs.

Install Shock

Install the shock back on the car. Start with the upper bolt to keep the shock in place and ensure the aluminum billet clamp is clocked towards the shock firewall. Reuse the factory bolt and nut on the upper shock mount. The kit comes with a grade eight bolt for the lower shock mounts and a stainless steel spacer to mount the limit strap. Use feet to lift the tire to install the hardware easily. Slide the stainless steel spacer on the backside. Remember to plug in the dynamix control loom at the top of the shock.

Settle the Suspension

Lower the car back on the ground. Turn the key to the position on; this will allow the shock to compress enough to bring the car back to ride height. You may need to force the front bumper to move the car far enough downwards.

Install Strap

Install the strap to the long supplied lower bolt and reusing the factory nut, Install the nut but leave it loose. Turn the key to the off position and Jack the car up to where the tires off the ground once again. With the car lifted up and the tire hanging off the ground, you'll notice that the strap is now tight and perfectly straight.

Tighten the Hardware

Tighten both the lower and upper Hardware, keeping the strap perfectly straight. Make sure to twerk all the hardware 295 foot-pounds as it is a grade “8” 12 millimetre bolt.

Attach Strap Tether

Locate the position for the tether to be attached to the lower spring. Install the tether with about one-inch of a gap.

Repeat the same steps on the opposite side.
