The Rugged Radios VHF External Antenna Kit for Handheld Radios is a purpose‑built accessory that dramatically improves the range and clarity of VHF communications when using handheld radios from inside vehicles or in open‑area applications such as short‑track racing, circle track events, and street usage. This external antenna kit extends the performance of your portable unit by moving the antenna outside the vehicle — providing better line‑of‑sight reception and transmission than the stock rubber‑duck antenna that stays inside the cab.
Engineered for reliability and ease of use, the kit includes a VHF ½‑wave antenna covering the 144–174 MHz frequency band, a 15 ft NMO‑mount cable assembly, and a BNC adapter matched to your specific handheld model.
