Description
The Shock Therapy Polaris RZR XP Turbo Race Rack and Long Pinion is a high-quality racing rack designed specifically for racing purposes. It is important to note that this rack cannot be used with stock tie rods and requires the use of aftermarket tie rods that utilize 5/8 Rod Ends on each end.
After extensively testing different racks, the Shock Therapy team discovered that the stock rack and pinion on their XP Turbo performed well and showed no signs of wear or rattle, even after 1500 race miles. However, during a race, the factory rack unexpectedly sheared in half, rendering the vehicle unable to steer. This incident prompted the team to search for aftermarket replacements, but they found that these racks had minimal improvements and could potentially cause bump steer, affecting the front end geometry, steering wheel feedback, and overall safety of the vehicle.
In response to this challenge, Shock Therapy developed their own Race rack, which offers several features not found in any other rack on the market. The rack is constructed using 7075 Aluminum, a high-grade material that is significantly stronger than the more common 6000 series aluminum. It also features hard anodized plating, which provides a hardened surface that resists wear and extends the rack's internal life.
One unique feature of the Shock Therapy Race rack is the dispersed grease passage lubrication system. With just a single grease fitting, this system feeds grease to six different spots within the rack, including the pinion gear, rack gear, and areas experiencing the most wear. This ensures proper lubrication and, as a result, a longer lifespan for the rack.
The Race rack also boasts a massive 1" x 1" square rack gear, which is twice as thick as the stock round gear and prevents bending and breakage. The rack gear is made from pre-heat treated material, resulting in a perfectly straight gear with minimal runout, eliminating the need for increased clearances in the rack body.
Another notable feature is the patent-pending gear tooth design, which has twice the base thickness of a standard tooth design, providing increased strength and durability. Additionally, the pinion gear is made from heat-treated 4140 Chromoly material, ensuring superior strength and longevity.
To prevent loosening, the Race rack uses a unique "Taper Lock" jam nut system that locks the nut and rod end in place, similar to a tool collet in a mill or lathe. Clevises made from solid 4130 Chromoly and high-tolerance shoulder bolts connect the tie rods to the rack.
