PRODUCT REVIEW | EFX MotoRally Tires

EFX Tires has grown to be a powerhouse in the UTV industry, and continues to evolve its strong lineup of powersports tires with the new MotoRally. Touted as an evolution of EFX’s high-performing MotoHammer desert tire, the MotoRally features a very similar tread pattern to the tire that precedes it, and shares the eight-ply radial construction. However, this all-new tire has increased tread spacing, more siping in the tread blocks and a more aggressive sidewall/shoulder lug combination.

We mounted up a set of 30×10.00R15 MotoRally tires on a Polaris Ranger XP 1000 Northstar Edition and headed into the Hualapai Mountains to test them. As it was early in the year, we found the full mixture of dry, dusty and rocky loose-over-hard pack trails, beautiful wet dirt, patches of snow and ice, and a few sparse mud puddles. This gave us plenty of opportunity to test the performance chops of the MotoRally even though the Ranger is lacking some horsepower. At least that heated cab made sure we were capable of focusing on the tires and not the cold!

After we departed from the parking area, I became a bit nervous as we hit the first few patches of snow and ice heading down the winding mountain trail. I’m a lifelong desert rat, so coming across snow is a rare occurrence for me, but the MotoRally gripped the road and kept the Polaris in shape as we continued along. The amount of traction on the loose dirt-covered, hard-pack trails was almost surprising; even in two-wheel drive, it was difficult to get the Ranger to slide without a bit of snow or mud to loosen things up. The feeling of traction as we transitioned from dirt to snow and back was predictable and easily controllable as well.

Once further down into the valley, the road opened up, so we were able to pick up the pace. The tires continued to deliver predictable traction and handling as the speed increased. We found some tight and rocky trails to slow things back down, so we clicked the Ranger into low range and four-wheel drive and pointed it up the hill. Heading up the steep and loose rocky terrain, we never slipped a tire and had the same sure-footed traction coming back down. I thought these rocky trails would give us a bit of a challenge, but new machinery combined with good tires makes everything all too easy these days.

The ride comfort of the MotoRally was also highlighted by the rocky terrain, as we weren’t tossed around while bumping over the bigger rocks. It was clear this is a pretty soft and compliant tire. For me, comfort is an important factor when choosing tires, and this rubber performed very well in that department.
