UTV Guide's Can-Am Maverick X3 Max X RS Turbo R Build

UTV Guide's Can-Am Maverick X3 Max X RS Turbo R Build

The Can-Am Maverick X3 X RS Max is a four-seater top-shelf UTV built to carry four people with long-distance suspension across the dunes or the desert. There is also a locking front differential on the 72-inch wide, 172-horsepower X3 X RS.

UTV Guide's Jon Crawley built the Can-Am Maverick X3 Max as an adventure rig. He began with a 2019 Can-Am Maverick X3 Max X rs Turbo R, then removed the back seats and converted them to versatile tool storage, camping equipment, water, ice chest, etc.

Alpine Designs Rear Seat Storage Conversion

He added Alpine Designs mounts that bolted right into where the usual seats were going. These are flexible and have many tie-down points allowing him to carry a ton of items. He has tools, a gearbox, and additional fuel in the back. With that setup, he can go far more distance.

Can-Am Lower Door Inserts

He used Can-Am 's factory lower door inserts. They are pretty easy to install, light and straightforward, and they work well. It does not impact the usual latching mechanism or anything. It keeps the dirt and debris out of the car and, in cold weather, makes it a little warmer.

Tires and Wheels

The wheels and tire setup hes running is EFX MotoVator 32x9.5 R15 tires mounted on KMC Beadlocks. It's an excellent dessert setup, and good size allows a little more stock ground clearance. He said they have been doing well in the desert for him.

Shock Therapy Dual Rate Spring Kit

Suspension wise on his setup, he added a shock therapy dual-rate spring kit.

HCR OEM Replacement Suspension

He added OEM replacement suspension to his X3 to make sure it was equipped to tackle any terrain. HCR trailing arms and radius rods in the back did the trick!

Assault Industries Accessories

He had a few things from assault industries on the car, and their fire extinguisher was mounted on the back. He 's got side mirrors, center mirror, and assault industry steering wheel. For him, the cool thing about this steering wheel is that it's a bit deeper from stock, so it brings the steering wheel back to him and the seat a bit more and allows him to be a bit more comfortable without reaching far out.

Rugged Radios Intercom, Radio, and Helmet Blower

Communication is vital when going on long rides, especially with a group of people. He said he always put his trust in rugged radios. He got their RM60 radio, 696 intercoms, and has their helmet blower system in addition to that. It helps to get fresh air in a dusty kind of setup and keep the dust off the helmet.

PRP Seats

He has PRP RS seats but uses the harnesses from the factory. He said these seats were more comfortable, they also had the drainage area in the back, so the water didn't puddle back while cleaning out the car. He added heated seats to that system, so it's good to be able to click over on cold days and warm your back.

Bombshell Gear Door Bags

Door bags are from the bombshell gear on the rig with factory doors. That's the moly kind of absolutely flexible setup. Bombshell has a whole array of different bags. He got two separate size bags, one for phone and another for the snacks or first-aid kit.

Warn Industries Roll Bar Bag

He has got one of the warm industry soft bags, and that's a great setup. He has got a first aid kit stuffed in that bag. He said he forgets the first-aid kit, but he always has that with the help of that setup.

SDR Motorsports Cage & Bumper

He added SDR Motorsports Cage and their Baja Series bumper to not only increase safety, but to give his X3 a great look.

Baja Designs LED Lights

He equipped his SD X3 bumper with a set of Baja Deisgns Squadron Sport lights. These are nice because to get ample cornering light; they can be fanned out to the side. He also had their replacement headlights, and these can also be changed to get different kinds of light. He's got their full-on light bar on top, and it's more of a spot that throws light out so he's got plenty to see pretty much everywhere as he goes on night rides with all the various lights.

XTC Power Products Street Legal Kit

Another thing he added to that is a street-legal kit of XTC power sports. What that does is a warning light and horn blinker kit that's good to have, whether you're going on the streets or not. He also opted for the turn signals, which are slick, small Fang lights.

More to Add

He said a few things that he still has to add to the build to get it to where he needs it.

The first one is a spare tire carrier. He needs to add something to the back bed so he can move a replacement. He said he'd like to add some LED whips for night rides and the dunes to feel more comfortable realizing he can be seen more. He would like to add a Factory UTV Skid Plate as well.
